Founded in 1974, the University of Vermont Cancer Center is Vermont’s only not-for-profit comprehensive clinical and research cancer center.
Hello From Burlington, VT
This year at the University of Vermont Cancer Center (UVMCC) has been characterized by growth and excitement across all of our pillars – research, education, clinical care, and community outreach and engagement. We’ve added new leadership and welcomed numerous new members, invigorating our research programs and enriching creative transdisciplinary initiatives. On the following pages, you’ll learn about advances in tobacco science led by UVMCC investigators, a clinical trial utilizing novel scientific approaches to individualize treatment for colon cancer patients, and comprehensive programs to address brain metastases.
We’ve expanded our educational opportunities with a new award from the American Cancer Society to support research of early career faculty and concluded a wildly successful summer research program for undergraduate, graduate, and medical students. As part of our efforts to enhance diversity, we implemented the Emerging EAB Experience and invited individuals from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical science and cancer centers to participate as members of the UVMCC External Advisory Board. All of these activities, along with our ongoing efforts to engage with our communities around cancer education, prevention, and screening, support our mission to reduce the burden of cancer across Vermont and northern New York.
