The Susan Lewis Levy Whole Health Cancer Program: A New Era of Care

In 2025, Richard (Dick) Levy made a transformative gift to the Osher Center for Integrative Health at UVM to establish the Susan Lewis Levy Whole Health Cancer Program, in honor of his late wife. This innovative program blends integrative therapies with evidence‑based medicine to support UVM Cancer Center patients and their caregivers, while advancing research and whole‑person approaches to healing. Through this legacy, Mr. Levy is helping build a new standard of compassionate cancer care that strengthens lives, restores well‑being, and shapes the future of survivorship for Vermont and beyond.

Here, patients depend on hospitals not just for treatment, but for connection, comfort, and hope. In 2025, moved by UVMCC's compassionate, innovative, and community‑rooted approach, Tom Berry and family made a significant commitment—an investment that strengthens UVMCC's momentum and deepens our impact on the lives of patients and families across Vermont and northern New York.

Marlene’s Cardinals: Turning Grief Into Hope for Cancer Patients

After losing his wife, Marlene, to glioblastoma in March 2025, Vermont folk artist Norton Latourelle began “Marlene’s Cardinals” as a way to transform his grief into something that could help others navigating cancer. Each hand‑carved cardinal becomes a small act of philanthropy—supporting patients, families, and caregivers while fueling UVM Cancer Center’s research and clinical trials in pursuit of better treatments. Through this work, Norton is creating a legacy of comfort, care, and hope that reflects Marlene’s spirit and strengthens the community she loved.

Trip's Rip: Riding to Support Clinical Trials and Cancer Research

‘Trip’s Rip’ is one community’s celebration of Floyd “Trip” Bump, known by all as a kind soul who loved side-by-side rides in the countryside around his hometown of Parishville, N.Y. After Trip passed away from stage 4 esophageal cancer, his family created an annual side-by-side community ride in his honor. Each year, the event raises money for several local causes as well as cancer research and clinical trials at UVM Cancer Center, where Trip was treated. In carrying on this tradition, Trip’s family has transformed loss into a legacy of compassion, community, and lifesaving care.
