Dear friends of UVM,
When U.S. Senator Justin Morrill of Vermont introduced the Morrill Land-Grant Act in 1862, he played a key role in one of the greatest—and most successful—experiments in the history of higher education. Signed into law by Abraham Lincoln, the Morrill Act allowed states to sell federal lands in order to fund colleges that were committed to advancing the public good.
The University of Vermont is the state’s land-grant institution, and we are proud to serve our community—both local and global—by educating promising students of all backgrounds, engaging in important research and creative endeavors, and pursuing discoveries to enhance economic health and quality of life. This issue of IMPACT demonstrates some of the many ways that our donors, volunteers, and advocates are supporting this crucial work.
Whatever way you have chosen to invest yourself in the life of UVM, thank you for your support.
