Grossman Challenge Success
Since 2013, the Grossman Family Foundation, founded by alumnus Steven Grossman ’61, has contributed $25 million to UVM’s School of Business. The commitments include two matching gift challenges totaling $15 million to support endowed funds at the Grossman School and the construction of Ifshin Hall. To complete the most recent challenge ahead of the June 30, 2021 deadline, more than 350 donors stepped forward to commit $18.8 million. More to come in future issues about how donors have helped propel the Grossman School of Business to the next level.
Greek Life Scholarships
Greek organizations on campus have a long history of fostering leadership skills, encouraging philanthropy and community service, and building strong bonds among students. The Greek Life Scholarships in the College of Education and Social Services were established to demonstrate the positive impact that students and alumni who participate in Greek life can have on the University. The scholarships benefit any student who has financial need and is pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in education—not just those who join a fraternity or sorority.

Pandemic Response Fund
Alumni and donors joined together to help UVM and students in need meet unprecedented challenges by supporting the University of Vermont’s Pandemic Response Fund. Thanks to their generosity, the University was able to offer scholarship assistance and educational technology to many students who otherwise would have had difficulty remaining enrolled under the changing circumstances of the past 17 months. These vital lifelines allowed students to make a seamless transition to remote learning and continue making progress toward their degrees. With this support, UVM will continue to help students overcome obstacles and hardships posed by COVID-19.

Freeman Foundation Legacy Medical Scholarship
Larner College of Medicine alumni and donors are helping to alleviate the shortage of physicians across the state of Vermont with gifts to the Freeman Foundation Legacy Medical Scholarship. The fund honors the Freeman family’s legacy of providing scholarship support to assist UVM medical students in becoming doctors here in Vermont, especially in underserved or rural areas. The scholarship helps defray tuition costs and reduces the debt burden on Larner graduates who intend to settle in Vermont when they are practicing physicians. Making a UVM medical education more affordable in this way is beneficial to both the health of Vermonters and the state economy.
